Building Futures is a charity founded by our parent company, Study Group. It supports communities in developing regions through projects that provide education materials and resources.
Through a combination of corporate donations and staff and student fundraising, Building Futures has helped eight communities from around the world. Our ninth project is raising money for a community in Sri Lanka.
Our latest project: Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka
This project in northern Sri Lanka aims to improve the education opportunities for 413 children by building a new primary school. Without our help, these children have to walk ten miles to the nearest school in a country that has been through 25 years of civil war, which only ended in 2009.
10x10 fundraising challenge 2015
The 2015 fundraising target for Sri Lanka is £100,000. To help achieve this staff and students are taking part in the 10x10 fundraising challenge. The challenge is: what can you do for 10 miles, 10 kilometres, 10 hours or just 10 times?
Money was raised for two school buildings to be built in Cambodia, in two separate locations. The buildings serve two different villages with classrooms, a toilet block, an outdoor play area and new teaching equipment. Vegetables can be grown in the school grounds to make sure children have enough to eat during the school day.
Building Futures’ first project with partner Plan International was the construction, furnishing and equipping of SD Saney School in Aceh, Indonesia, and was fully funded by Study Group.
Building Futures funded the construction, furnishing and equipping of Zounzounkanme Primary School and the training of approximately 400 teachers from the district of Klouekanme, resulting in an improvement to the standard of teaching in 66 villages across the region.
Codó Nova, Brazil
Study Group staff and students raised the sum of £30,463 to cover the cost of building four new classrooms and a computer room at the Rozalina Zaidan School in Codó Nova, an urban slum on the outskirts of Codó, Brazil.
Liu Shu, China
The remoteness of villages in China means that many primary schools provide boarding facilities during the week. Xiao Feng Primary School was in desperate need of renovation to create a safe and hygienic environment.
Van Hun Commune, Vietnam
This project aimed to improve the quality of education at Van Han Lower Secondary School, extending and renovating classrooms and improving outdoor space so that the school could properly accommodate more than 500 children from the surrounding villages.
Dosso and Tillaberi Districts, Niger
Staff and students worldwide raised $165,000 to get this ambitious project off the ground in Dosso and Tillaberi Districts, Niger. The project will directly benefit approximately 5,000 students including 1,800 girls from 20 targeted villages.
