From historic treasures to modern marvels, here’s our selection of things not to miss when visiting London.

London is one of the most exciting cities in the world, and it’s set to be the world’s favourite destination in 2014. The combination of historic treasures and modern marvels make it a very rewarding place to explore.

There are literally hundreds of things to do, so we’ve split our list into five categories, meaning there’s something for everyone!

From July to September, the world famous residence of the Queen and the Royal Family opens to the public. Make sure you take advantage and visit Buckingham Palace while you can. Other must-sees include the much-photographed Houses of Parliament and the Tower of London (currently covered in a blanket of red poppies in memory of World War I).

Museums & Galleries
London’s museums and galleries rival the best in the world, and even better: many of them are free! A good starting point is the fascinating Natural History Museum, followed by a fun trip to the Science Museum, just a minute’s walk away. If art is your thing, visit the Tate Modern for the latest exhibits, with the National Portrait Gallery just across the river.

From the extravagant luxury of Mayfair to quirky Covent Garden, you can find just about anything in London. We recommend spending a day focussing on a few streets, and you can’t go wrong starting at Oxford Street. With over 300 shops and just 40 minutes from Bellerbys, it’s a winner. Don’t miss Regent Street for fashion, Bond Street for designer gear and Covent Garden for something unique.

London was the location for the 2012 Olympics, and the sporting spirit still buzzes through the city. Not only is it home to some of the world’s leading football clubs (Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur), it also hosts the world’s most famous tennis tournament (Wimbledon). If there isn’t a match on, why not take a stadium tour of Wembley, Lords Cricket Ground or the Wimbledon Museum?

The West End is the perfect place to catch a show, with award-winning The Lion King currently the most popular performance. If you prefer the theatre, look up Shakespeare’s Globe or the Old Vic for the latest listings.
