Oxford Rivals in Basketball Battle

Bellerbys Oxford narrowly lose match against Kings Education

The Bellerbys basketball team took on their local rivals Kings Education on 4 June.

The Bellerbys team included four GCSE students, 2 Foundation students, 1 student from our ELP Programme, and 1 former student who has progressed to Oxford Brookes.

The team from Kings Education was looking for revenge, having lost all previous games to Bellerbys, and they demonstrated excellent defence.

Kings was winning 12-8, and the Bellerbys team had to rely on some great distance shooting. After a time-out, coach Adam re-grouped Bellerbys and they went on to gain 9 more points. Just before half time Kings scored 6 points of their own, which took the half time score to 21-24 to Kings.

Bellerbys had their most successful period just after the break, outscoring Kings 14-6. Bellerbys captain, Beili Pan was on fire with some excellent shooting.
With just minutes to go in the final quarter Bellerbys was winning 39-37, but before long it was 41 each with 10 seconds left.
Bellerbys fouled just as the Kings player was shooting, giving that player two attempts to score a free throw. He missed the first one but scored on the second.

Bellerbys had 7 seconds to beat the buzzer, but Kings forced Bellerbys into a long distance shot that fell short.

Kings was crowned winner with the final score at 41-42.
