How the Bellerbys Foundation programme works

  • Courses begin in January, April*, September and October
  • Each programme is based on the A Level syllabus and is accredited by Lancaster University, ranked in the UK top 10 by Guardian University Guide 2016
  • You will learn relevant academic knowledge through subject-specific modules. You will also receive English language tuition and learn the study skills you will need at university

Choosing your Foundation pathway

Step 1: Choose from 11 subject routes

Whether you are looking for a career as an engineer, lawyer, entrepreneur, graphic designer or pharmacist, there's a Foundation programme that will prepare you for a relevant degree.

Each Bellerbys college specialises in a different subject area, and provides an enrichment programme to help you gain real-world experience of your chosen subject.

Step 2: Choose the right location for the academic pathway you are taking

Each of our four colleges offers specialist tuition and guidance to help you make a confident transition to university life and study.

  • Brighton is our largest college and offers the widest choice of subjects
  • Cambridge specialises in science and engineering, and is located in a leading global centre for STEM industries
  • London, one of the world's greatest business capitals, provides the best opportunity for progression to top universities in the city and throughout the UK
  • Oxford specialises in art, humanities and law within an inspiring location famous for its prestigious university.

Step 3: Apply for your place

Unique university offers

You will receive an offer of conditional progression from Durham University and Lancaster University when you receive an offer to study one of the following Foundation pathways:

English Language Preparation Programme

If you need additional language preparation before you start your course, you can first join our English Language Preparation Programme

Foundation Preparation Programme (October start)

This course will provide you with extra support, preparing you for your Foundation programme in January, including:

  • Extra English classes as required
  • University guidance including university visits, UCAS applications
  • Study skills including research and presentation techniques, essay writing and more
  • Personal development and soft skills development including team work, critical thinking, debate and confidence building
  • Students starting the Foundation Preparation Programme in October will start their Foundation programme beginning January

Extended Foundation

The Extended Foundation is a four-term academic programme. The extra term is designed for students who need additional guidance before they start the three-term Foundation.

If you need to increase your academic skills or English level before starting the three-term Foundation, this is a good option for you. This programme is offered at our Brighton and London Colleges.

Start dates:

  • January (Brighton only)
  • June (London only)
  • September (Brighton and London)

Following successful completion of the English, Mathematics, Business Studies (and General Science in Brighton) modules in term one, and achievement of the required English entry level, you will progress to study a set of core subjects alongside one of the mainstream Foundation pathways.
